Interspecific and Intraspecific Competition between Savanna Animals
INTERSPECIFIC COMPETITION:
Ineraspecific competition means when animals or other organisms have to compete against each other in order to survive or gain something that they need. This happens with two different species. They can compete against each other for things like water, food, or even a habitat.
INTRASPECIFIC COMPETITION:
Interspecific competition is when the same species (animal or organism) fights for the same thing. That means it can not happen between a lion and an elephant.
Some examples of INTERSPECIFIC competition are a hyena against a vulture competing for food. They will have to fight against each other in order for one of them to get there meal. In the end only one of the species will win & get the food.
Also take a lion and a cheetah. If there was a zebra they both were wanting to hunt down, they would both have to battle against each other to see who gets the zebra for food.
This sort of competition not only happens with animals though, it can also happen with things like plants & trees. In the savanna there is a tree called the Jackal-berry tree. This is a very tall big tree that gets alot of sunlight. Other trees beneath the Jackal-berry tree will have to compete with it to survive. They will have to fight for things like sunlight, water & many other things that the Jackal-berry tree will have an advantage on because its big height.
